The Suits: Do any of you cook?

Hey look a real update. Why is it so late? I try to keep my life out of these news posts as much as possible but I’ve gotta rant for a minute.

I had long overdue braces put on Thursday. It’s just the top row for the next three weeks. Pain and I aren’t strangers, and I really haven’t had much of a problem with that, but…I can’t bite down. My front teeth aren’t allowed to meet or they’ll chomp off my bottom braces when they go on, so NONE of my teeth touch. This means I can’t chew, which means I can’t eat anything I can’t break up with my cheeks, but even my cheeks can’t do much anymore because they’re all torn up by the brackets and wire. On top of this my tongue has nowhere to go until they yank out the tooth I need pulled so I can’t relax my jaws. The severe discomfort is giving me insomnia no amount of dental wax can cure. I’m in physical agony and mental exhaustion, and I’m fucking starving.

SO YEAH, updates are probably going to suck. I’m trying hard to acquire motivation to do anything besides sit around staring at walls. Hopefully I will have something for you Monday (or at least wretch the site away from Jessie’s holiday clutches). If all else fails I suppose I’ll fall back on the surplus of AAC questions I need to answer.

Oh god, braces. I feel your pain there. Yours sound even worse than mine, but I’ve had the torn cheeks, the pain, the inability to chew, the pain…Braces basically suck all around. You have my deepest sympathies.
Scarce updates are fine, we can be patient. Besides, AACs are fun, too. :)

You poor woman! Get some Boost, or Ensure (you can get it in lactose free) or some “cream” soup or bouillon cubes or stuff like that you can drink through a straw — I lived on that stuff for a month after I had my wisdom teeth out because they bruised the cartilage in both sides of my jaw and I could barely open my mouth wide enough to get a straw in, never mind chew. Try putting regular food through a food processor so you don’t have to chew it– I did that for quite a while, too. See if your orthodontist will script you for something called “magic mouthwash” — (or you can get it at your local hospital ER) it’s got lidocaine in it and it will numb the inside of your poor shredded mouth and give you some pain relief. Don’t worry about updates. If we get to jonesing too bad, we can always hit the archives –

I tried Ensure yesterday, it’s so nasty I had to plug my nose and drink it really fast. I’ll look for Boost, though. Maybe it tastes a tad better. Water right now is my best friend, but our ice is really nasty and old so when it melts that starts tasting like crap too. :V

    Thanks for all the advice!

Ouch - deepest sympathies from someone who’s had multiple procedures, including those blasted braces. Split pea soup was one of my best friends, along with the cream soups mentioned before and some of the meatless noodle soups where the noodles can be swallowed whole - barely luke warm so heat/cold didn’t aggrivate anything.

Hang in there, it does get better eventually.

Ew, braces are evil. After I got mine, I learned you can liquify EVERYTHING. Hope you get better soon!

Use an “immersion blender” (or sometimes known as a hand blender). You can blend all your food with it and drink it afterwards. It doesn’t taste somewhat great, but it makes you saturated and you don’t need to starve…

They are not too expensive to buy and should be available at bigger stores (e.g. Walmart, Tesco, …)

I never had to use them but I had people close to me that had…It’s rough for what they tell me. Good luck enduring it. Try to distract yourself from it. It’s the only thing I can come up as a solution. > >
