[edit 2-1-2012] So I’ve been on this medication for almost a week now and I do think it’s helping to some degree. It’s either slightly dulling the pain or making me high enough not to care, I am unable to tell which. I’m totally going to resume updates soon but I’m moving in eleven days on semi short notice. There’s a lot about Brooklyn I love but I’ve gotta get the hell out before I kill everyone.

I won’t have reliable internet for two weeks but I hope to be a drawing machine and return to you in March with a buffer!

Some things came back positive but it’s not enough to be conclusive and not really related to my hand pain. The doctor told me straight up he didn’t think he could help me. He gave me some medication for nerve pain since normal pain meds don’t work but we’re just throwing things at the wall to see if they’ll stick at this point. I have to get labs again in 8 weeks for the unrelated stuff at which point I’ll get a second opinion if this medication doesn’t work. Basically I’m shit out of luck for now and need to just deal.

I’ll have a real page up soon I think. I can no longer draw on command, for long periods of time, or on any sort of schedule but I can sort of draw on good days. I really want to finish 2R and can’t imagine my life without art so I’m not giving up.

I had scarlet fever and got joint damage from it. in my finger joints — which is a real bummer for somebody who types a lot. Pain meds didn’t work on my pain, but amitriptyline (Elavil) helps. Also Lyrica might help. It’s for nerve pain. Hope they figure out what’s going on and can do something about it. *gives big E-hug* Take care of yourself lady. Also, have you been tested for lead and mercury?

I double Barg.
Also: I had some wrist problems that turned out to come from slightly dislocated piece of spine which made some tension throughout the muscles and sinews and gave stress in my wrist; it could be something like that too.

I got an EMG and my nerves and muscles are all completely normal. My x-rays are normal. I don’t have an autoimmune disease but my ANA test was positive. I have some strong feeling that’s what it is since I have had other problems that go along with this. My rheumatologist said it sounds like a constricted nerve but he has no proof, which is why we’re trying Gabapentin. It makes me dizzy as hell but we’ll see if it works in a few days.

The neurologist said it’s probably “just RSI”. Really reassuring doc, thanks.

That sucks. I hope you find something that helps soon. I had troubles like that for a week once and it drove me crazy already.

As a chronic-pain-sufferer-with-few-answers myself, I can imagine how frustrating it is. Not that I presume to know exactly what you’re experiencing, because it just makes me want to punch people when someone does that to me. Perhaps it’d be better so say, I sympathize (empathize?). So I can only wish for you to keep at it. We hold on to the precious things we still *can* do, because they’re what keep us stable regardless of the pain.

Here’s a hundred-thousand well-wishes sent your way, along with some virtual heated rice bags (or cold compresses, if they’re more helpful). Do you accept prayers? I’ll send those, too.

just know we’re with you forever. seriously, i will never get over your art. it feels amazing to have a piece of it on my bookshelf. we’re pulling for you and we believe in you forever. no matter what.
